QUESTIONING

Thin Questions Thin questions deal with specific content or words. Answers to thin questions are short and close ended. Example: What sport did they play while in the camp?

Thick Question A thick question is a question that requires more than a one or two word response. It deals with the big picture and large concepts Thick answers are involved, complex, and open ended. Example: Why did his Dad think they needed a baseball field?

Thick and Thin Questions Why was everyone working together to build the field? Thick Where was Camp? Thin Why did the man on the tower make him mad? Why did seeing the glare on the pitcher’s sunglasses help him to hit the ball? Who mailed them bats, balls, and gloves?
