One of Pioneers of Differential Calculus Born: August 17, 1601, in France Died: Jan 12,1665,also in France

Fermat's experiences He attended the University of Orléans from 1623. In Bordeaux he began his first serious mathematical researches in 1629. He is an amateur mathematician, also a lawyer. His discovery of an original method of finding the greatest and the smallest ordinates of curved lines.

One of Fermat's Theorem that we have ever learned... If f has a local maximum or minimum at c, and if f'(c) exists, then f'(c) = 0.

why important? Fermat’s Last Theorem, in mathematics, famous theorem which has led to important discoveries in algebra and analysis. a2 + b2 = c2 an + b n = cn, the new equation cannot be solved in integers for any value of n greater than 2. After 350 years,Andrew Wiles proves an exception.
