RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Arusha, Tanzania SENEGAL Moustapha Sadibou TALL ARSN 2 – 5 December 2013

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Status of progress with implementing the national self-assessment of the regulatory infrastructure for safety: Status of the first life cycle Response completed: NOT completed Analysis completed: NOT completed Action plan completed: NOT completed Preparation phase started but not yet completed Scope of Self-Assessment: Questionnaires/Modules selected for the first self-assessment cycle:

Scope of Self-Assessment: Questionnaires/Modules selected for the first self-assessment cycle: Core questions only Gov responsibility for safety : DG + Constance + Moustapha Tall Management system : DG + Moustapha Tall (DI) + Ababacar Ndao (DA) Responsibilities and functions of the RB: Moustapha Thioune + Cheikh Senghor + Ababacar Ndao Global safety regime: Moustapha Thioune + Constance + Cheikh Senghor

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Challenges: Management commitment: Good; the DG and all directors involved. Training / understanding: ARSN staff trained. SARIS is now well understood by ARSN staff Personnel: Personnel of other organizations linked to ARSN trough MOU to be trained. Time: ARSN managed sufficient time for the training of its personnel on SARIS. Difficulty to manage suitable time table with other organizations . Technical (software, question-sets, etc.): No difficulty so far identified with the software and question-set. English language is a concern for many persons (out of ARSN) since Senegal is a French speaking country. External (i.e. cooperation from other organizations, etc.): Cooperation with customs, Fireman Gendarmerie: difficult to have suitable timetable convenient for all for training and (later) performing the self assessment. Others:

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Project outputs and outcomes: Findings (explain during your presentation). No major findings yet identified. English language is a big concern. Benefits (explain during your presentation). ARSN is now able to develop self assessment. Examples of added-value to the organisation. Developing cooperation with other organizations. Better knowledge of our own regulation. Notable outcomes. ARSN staff trained on self assessment. Lessons learned Others: Learning a lot from other FNRBA members

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Improvements to regulatory infrastructure: Not yet applicable to Senegal Implementation of improvements to the regulatory framework – progress Changes made in activities / organisation / functioning of the Regulatory Body Results of actions implemented to date Improvements planned Others

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Other project benefits: Training courses: ARSN attended all training courses on SAT and SARIS. The last one in Zimbabwe was interesting and allow the trained staff with the help of IAEA to train other staff. Meetings: ARSN attended all relevant meetings. Networking trough FNRBA

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Relevant observations: Notable good practices to be shared with all participating States Areas of common concern to be addressed in other similar projects: language is a big concern. Some personnel of other organizations need translation of SARIS into French. Next steps: Train partners Form teams (Response, Analyse an action Plan) Perform self assessment Any other issues

RAF9038 Final Coordination Meeting Thank you for your attention Many thanks to Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) And to IAEA
