It contains a chemical called alendronate as an active component which belongs to a drug class of bisphosphonates GENERIC FOSAMAX is a drug widely used to recover to manage osteoporosis in men and women About the molecule

How it acts? Causes a net improvement in bone mass Alters the cycle of bone formation (ossification) and breakdown (resorption) in the body For the treatment and/or inhibition of osteoporosis in men and women Acts on the internal milieu of bone which is made of minerals Reduces the activity of osteoclasts (cells in the bones in charge for bone resorption or breakdown) Declines high rate of bone turnover

Indications and usage Paget's disease of bone Post-menopausal osteoporosis in women Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in men

40 mg OD for six months in case of Paget's disease of the bone 10 mg OD or 70 mg (tablet or oral solution) once in a week in case of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men 5 mg OD or 35 mg once weekly for preventing osteoporosis in postmenopausal women 5 mg or 10 mg once a day in case of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis Dosage and administration Swallow tablets with plain water at least 30 minutes prior to first food, drink, or medication of the day. For postmenopausal women not on estrogen therapy

Common side-effects Abdominal painacid reflux constipation diarrhea indigestion musculoskeletal pain vomiting

There is low levels of calcium in the blood There are abnormalities of the esophagus like achalasia You have Inability to stand/sit upright for at least 30 minutes FOSAMAX is NOT TO BE USED if Safety Measures

Discontinue FOSAMAX in case of acidity or upper GIT reactions can occur Prior hypocalcemia must be treated before administration of FOSAMAX or it can worsen Severe bone, joint, muscle pain can happen Jaw osteonecrosis and leg fractures can also occur Warnings and Precautions
