History How it started … Open Data became a topic in Austria about the year 2010 Driven by Peter Parycek from the Department for E-Governance of the Danube University in Krems, the topic spread quickly in Austria Already in 2010 there were data.gv.at – meetups, followed in 2011 by the first Open Data Conference in Vienna City of Vienna announces launch of Open Data portal data.wien.gv.at first community in Austria presenting Open Data Catalogue open up data reservoir under a Creative-Commons-License (CC BY 3.0 )

History … continuing Viennese launch of Open Data portal was followed suit by City of Linz, City of Graz, City of Salzburg 13th July 2011: „Cooperation Open Government Data Austria“ (Cooperation OGD Austria) founded by Federal Chancellery, cities of Vienna, Linz, Salzburg and Graz Today: Austrian Open Data portal from Federal Republic lists more than 2000 Data Sets: https://www.data.gv.at/veroeffentlichende-stellen/ Challenges like open4data.at challenge 2016 further foster topic and try to bring Data to life.
