Upper Austria Kaiservilla Bad Ischl
Kaiservilla Bad Ischl: It was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. It was built in 1860. On the 28th of July, 1914, Emperor Franz Joseph signed the declaration of war on Serbia in his study in the west wing of the house which further developed the First World War. The Kaiservilla Bad Ischl complex, which includes the Kaiservilla, the park, the Kaiservilla kitchen building, the former gardener’s house, the Marmorschlössl and the buildings of the Fotomuseum of the State of Upper Austria and the Landesmusikschule, are under monument protection.
Lower Austria Melk Abbey
Melk Abbey: The abbey was founded in 1089, when Leopold II gave one of his castles to the Benedictine monks from Lambach. In the 12th century the monastic school, the Stiftsgymnasium Melk, and the library soon became renowned for its extensive manuscript collection. Today‘s Baroque abbey was built between 1702 and 1736. The school was returned to the abbey after the Second World War.
