Electrical Conductivity of Molecular Assemblies Krzysztof Slowinski, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry California State University, Long Beach, CA 90840 The scanning electrochemical microscopy was used to characterize the long range electron transfer across the thiolate films deposited on Hg in Hg trough. A monolayer of dodecanethiol deposited in Hg trough appers to significantly inhibit oxidation of ferrocyanide.Investigations concerning 2-component systems are underway. Voltammetric measurements were used to compare long-range electron transfer through n-alkanethiols containing either HS- or HSe- end group. Our data shows that the heterogenous rate of Ru(NH3)63+ reduction on n-alkanethiol monolayers is approximately 4 fold larger than the rate measured on n-alkaneselonel monolayers containing the same number of carbon atoms Ru(NH 3 ) 6 3+ 2+ Hg = S or Se Fe(CN) 4 - SECM TIP Pt
