The sun By Maeve and Jessica

Apollo the sun god The sun has some links to Greek mythology. It was said that Apollo (the sun god) drove his sun chariot across the sky which caused sunrise. Apparently he was just lazy during winter.

Fun facts The sun is a star found at the centre of the solar system. Light from the sun reaches the earth in around 8 minutes. The sun is roughly middle aged.

ECLIPSE During a solar eclipse, the Moon can sometimes perfectly cover the Sun because its size is nearly the same as the Sun's when viewed from the Earth. As observed from the Earth, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun.

WHAT THE SUN IS MADE OF

Some more fun facts The Sun is travelling at 220 km per second. The suns core is around 13600000 degrees Celsius.

COOL FACTS Your age is the amount of time that you went around the sun. If you heated the head of a pin to the temperature of the sun it would kill anyone within 1000 miles of it.
