Before Auschwitz Borowski was born in 1922 in Ukrainian He attended underground schools in Poland during the Nazi occupation Became involved in several underground newspapers He started to write and publish his poetry and short stories Lived in Warsaw with his fiancé until they were both arrested and sent to concentration camps
Auschwitz and after Forced into harsh conditions and slave labor Borowski later wrote about his experience working on a railway ramp where he saw Jews forced from the trains into the gas chambers Eventually he and his fiancée are freed from the camps and in 1946 they married He then worked as a journalist for the Communist Polish Workers Party Communists started putting people in prison camps In 1951 Borowski committed suicide by breathing in gas
