CMSD Overview of Student Growth Measures New Changes for the 2017-18 School Year

Objectives By the end of the presentation, you should be able to do the following: Explain how Student Growth Measure teacher categories are determined for SY 2017-18 Explain the changes for 2017-18 Determine your teachers’ SGM teacher category and assessments for the 2017-18 school year

How do SLOs Fit into the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System?

ODE Defined Teacher Categories Category Teachers are in this category if… A1 They receive value-added reports using state assessments for all courses they teach. A2 They receive value-added scores using state assessments for some, but not all, courses. B They do not receive any value-added reports based on state assessments but they use vendor assessments that produce growth scores. C They do not receive any value-added reports or vendor assessment growth scores.

Category A

Category B

Category C

What’s New for the 2017-18 SY Teachers and principals will use value-added ratings from 2016-17 Ohio State Tests as part of their evaluation

What’s New for the 2017-18 SY SLO Target Appeal & Review Process Per the new contract, if a building TDES Team approves a teacher’s request to reduce an SLO target for a student and the building principal disagrees, the teacher may appeal to the SLO Subcommittee within 10 working days of rejection. The SLO Subcommittee will review the SLO against the SLO Guidance Documents to determine if the proposed adjustment aligns with the Guidance Documents and make a determination.

What’s New for the 2017-18 SY Aimsweb replaces STAR/STAR Early Literacy for the K-3 Teachers’ Vendor Assessment Reduces testing Only the original aimsweb measures will be used for SGM purposes. This means SGM will be calculated using only for LNF for K and ORF for 1-3

Which Assessments will be used for my SLOs? All teachers should use Appendix D as a guide to determine their category and assessments for their student growth measures. SLO Portal questions will also help guide you. ALL teachers should answer the questions in the SLO portal.

Where’s Appendix D? Schoolnet (SGM Help under Teacher Resourses) TDES building teams should maintain copies

Timeline Sept 25 & 26 – SLO Training Oct 16 – SGM Portal Opens Oct 17, 23, and 24 – Drop In Sessions Oct 31 – Portal Closes for Submissions Nov 8 – Portal Closes for Approvals (We will email principals and chapter chairs with any changes)
