BASIC KULINTANG

NOTATION SYMBOLS FOR KULINTANG 1, 2, 3, etc. Each number corresponds to a Kulintang gong. “1” refers to gong 1 (lowest pitched gong), “2” to gong 2, “3” to gong 3 and so forth.

Left hand strikes the gong Left hand strikes the gong. Rhythmically, a single number with in a box means that a gong is struck once on the beat 3 3 Right hand strikes the gong. Two numbers aligned with each other means that the two gongs are struck together on the beat. 1 4

Two numbers with a horizontal line above them indicate that there are two strokes with in a beat. Generally these strokes are of equal duration. 54 4 4 5 5 . A dot inside a box indicates silence equivalent to one beat.
