New structure & design of ESPA website Some principles for discussion ESPA team meeting 2 August 2017 Mairi Dupar

Review of website workflow Vast bulk of restructuring and redesign to meet our ‘legacy website’ needs must happen by November 2017 (c 17-20 Nov.) This is requirement of supplier availability and projected spend Only very minor bug-fixing, support to web editor (s) after that and Revamp of homepage (only) c. March 2018 = a cosmetic change

Global homepage November 2017 edition

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Homepage slider with latest news and blogs highlighted [similar to at present] Latest news and blogs *Manually curated list: room for ‘teaser’ as well as headline + image. Link to view all Events *Manually curated list: room for ‘teaser’ as well as headline + image. Link to view all Latest impact story Latest video Latest publication Twitter feed For researchers & academics For policy-makers & practitioners For grantholders Projects Regions Communicating your work Publications Policy briefs During your project Situational analyses Impact stories

Homepage proposals, Nov 2017 edition Main change is on top menu bar, which is a site-wide change Add ‘themes’ and ‘countries’ Add ‘multimedia’ Remove ‘news and events’ from top menu bar as we move toward legacy Both news and events will now be primarily accessible via homepage ‘advert’ (signpost) Blogs will be accessible via themes and countries landing pages and filters

Global homepage March 2018 edition

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Static welcome bar linking to ‘About ESPA’ page with ESPA programmatic brochure download and text describing what ESPA was and did ESPA book title here Link to digibook and download of hard copy book plus info on how to order Publications Link to latest three Link to view all academic + non-academic pubs Blogs from ESPA Manually showcase ‘farewell’ blog by Kate Link to view all blogs Impacts from ESPA Manually showcase impact paper. Link to view all impact briefs Learning from ESPA Highlight/link to apex learning paper etc For researchers & academics For policy-makers & practitioners Projects Regions Publications Policy briefs

Homepage proposals, Mar 2018 edition Top menu bar remains the same as Nov 2017 Events, twitter and news are removed from global homepage Top welcome box becomes static feature rather than ‘slider’ of latest news and features ESPA book has pride of place ESPA learning and ESPA impacts both have high prominence/profile, with quick entry points to ‘view all’ resources in these categories

User journey to ESPA thematic results Entry point via top menu bar [mega menu] or via themes search page [simple menu click] ESPA thematic search results page

Thematic search options: tbc The thematic search filter will be a new option for end users We still need to establish how we are going to build this out: Via a ‘mega’ drop down menu from the top menu bar? Or via a landing page for themes where you drill into the theme you want? However we develop this navigation, we want users to eventually end up at a thematic RESULTS page as follows…

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Resilience {Sketch of a Thematic results page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Resilience Short one paragraph introductory blurb about what resilience means and how it relates to ecosystem services Publications [Results –last 2-3 results chronologically] Academic Non-academic Projects [Results –last 2-3 results chronologically] Blogs [Results – last 2-3 results chronologically]

User journey to ESPA country results Entry point via top menu bar [mega menu] or entry point via country search page [simple menu click] ESPA country results page

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Find a country {Sketch of Countries search page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Find a country User selects their country entry point Precise functionality needs to be scoped with developer E.g. feasibility of clickable map (desirable) vs drop-down menu Overview of how ecosystem services can support poverty alleviation by region Africa Asia Latin America and Caribbean

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Ghana {Sketch of a Country results page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Ghana Short one paragraph introductory blurb (?) about Ghana’s ecosystem types, national development profile Publications [Results –last 2-3 results chronologically] Academic Non-academic Projects [Results –last 2-3 results chronologically] Blogs [Results – last 2-3 results chronologically]

User journey to ESPA project Entry point via top menu bar ESPA projects search page ESPA project result

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries ESPA projects {Sketch of what will be on Projects search page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries ESPA projects Find a project by country Drop down menu to select country [BUT precise search functionality to be explored with developer] Find a project by theme Drop down menu to select theme [Ditto – precise search functionality to be explored with developer] All projects view List of project titles that hyperlink to project records, chronologically listed

Project search proposals (1) We now cluster/organise projects and offer search functionalities that are going to make more sense to the end user: geographic filters thematic filters But – there are some things we can opt to keep [but as user journeys that are ‘secondary’ to the geographic and thematic filters] see next>

Project search proposals (2) How important that we keep these search categories in a secondary way?

Project search proposals (3) As things stand, it seems we should be able to keep this (but tbc) – any objections? Currently ‘nice to have’ not ‘essential’

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries {Sketch of what’s in a Project record} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries Title of the project / date Project description (200-300 words) Publications Academic view all Non academic (policy briefs etc) People Coral Willow Blogs Blog title By Bob By Will

User journey to ESPA publications Entry point via top menu bar ESPA publications search page ESPA publication result

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries {Sketch of Publications search page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries ESPA publications **difference from the current functionality is that this page must showcase BOTH academic (as at present) AND non-academic publications (policy briefs, impact briefs, working papers) Find a publication by country Drop down menu to select country [BUT precise search functionality to be explored with developer] Find a publication by theme Drop down menu to select theme [Ditto – explore functionality with developer] All publications view Presentation of publications - titles that hyperlink to academic AND non-academic records [probably present these two publications results SEPARATELY], chronologically listed

Publication results: non-academic We need more content in html (outside the pdf) for general users and especially for mobile users… than we have at present Current format>

Publication results: academic papers Good features Good functionality Better design? Current format>

User journey to ESPA multimedia Entry point via top menu bar ESPA multimedia search page ESPA multimedia result and/or youtube channel

About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries {Sketch of Multimedia search page} About Projects Publications Multimedia Themes Countries ESPA multimedia Infographics [Will we have enough to offer filtering? May be a simple landing page with ‘view all’] Videos [Will we have enough to offer filtering? May be a simple landing page with ‘view all’ / link to youtube channel]
