The Shift2Rail IP2 vision Control Command and Railway Communication Conference 2017 15th November 2017, Valenciennes Claudio Monti, Ansaldo STS, IP2 Coordinator

Shift2Rail, a great opportunity of growth for European Railways and Industries Foster focused, coordinated and long-term investment in EU rail R&I The Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking (S2R JU) is a new Public-Private Partnership in the rail sector, established under Horizon 2020, to provide a platform for coordinating research activities with a view to driving innovation in the rail sector in the years to come. (*) Increase the operational performance and cost-effectiveness of rail R&I Increase the leverage effect of EU rail R&I funding Overcome the issues of R&I fragmentation and to support the market uptake The need Ensure a system-wide approach to innovation Establish sustained networks and knowledge exchange between diverse stakeholders (*) EU funding: EUR 450 million Total budget: ~ EUR 920 million The answer 2

Impacting all segments of the rail market! Shift2Rail - Macro and Long Term targets 50 % reduction of the life-cycle cost of the railway transport system, through a reduction of the costs of developing, maintaining, operating and renewing infrastructure and rolling stock, as well as through increased energy efficiency 100 % increase in the capacity of the railway transport system, to meet increased demand for passenger and freight railway services 50 % increase in the reliability and punctuality of rail services (measured as a 50 % decrease in unreliability and late arrivals) Impacting all segments of the rail market! 3

Enhance Interoperability Shift2Rail - Macro and Long Term targets Enhance Interoperability Respect and adapt the existing target system specifications (TSIs). Identification of the need to remove current open points to apply future technological solutions Impacting all segments of the rail market! Main & HS Lines Regional Urban/Suburban Freight Simplify Processes The aim is to reduce the development and productions costs of innovative technologies 4

Shift2Rail – Five Innovation Programmes (*) The work conducted within the Shift2Rail framework will be structured, first of all, around five asset-specific Innovation Programmes (IPs), covering all the different structural (technical) and functional (process) subsystems of the rail system. Energy is one of the key concerns in the ambitious goal to increase the competitiveness of railway transport, to boost the competitiveness in the European manufacturing rail sector and to limit environment impact. Energy efficiency simultaneously enables improvement of railways excellent environmental balance by cutting down CO2 emissions and to improve the economic business model of the Railway Transport sector by reducing the cost of energy, making train travel more affordable and thus promoting the modal shift to rail. 5 (*) Total budget: ~ EUR 191 million

Focusing on IP2 The Steps - today and the future CONTRIBUTION FROM ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS Adaptable Communication Moving block On the basis of ERTMS/ETCS to define a signalling system, based on Moving Block principles, applicable across all railway categories achieving high capacity by decoupling the infrastructure from the train performance and contributing to reduce the use of Trackside Train Detection. Fail safe Train Positioning (GNSS) On the basis of ERTMS/ETCS core to define and absolute and safe positioning system based on GNSS and multi-sensor concept contributing to reduce the number of physical balises Virtual Coupling Will explore the innovative concept of “virtual trains” capable of operating physical trains much closer to one another (inside their absolute braking distance) and dynamically modifying their own composition on the move. Traffic Management System evolution To enhance the standardization of Traffic Management processes in order to rationalise automation processes, simplify Train Dispatcher operations and performances. ATO up to GoA4 Cyber Security TD2.1 TD2.11 TD2.2 ATO up GoA4 On the basis of ERTMS/ETCS to implement the Automatic Driving up to the highest grade of automation increasing line capacity, reducing operating costs, saving energy. On Board Train Integrity On Board safe detection of the Train tail and integrity without interaction with trackside equipment. Radio connected Object Controller To provide distributed control of remote trackside objects such as points, level crossings, etc., without requiring the use of trackside cabling, associated cable routes etc. Radio connected Object Controller Fluid Moving Block Zero on site testing To minimise or reduce to zero on-site tests. To improve the lab testing capabilities. To define a common and dedicated system test architecture and methodology for the lab tests fixing a common test process framework. Formal Methods To introduce formal and standard process for requirement capture, design, verification and validation in order to make efficient the design steps shortening time-to-market of new Products. TD2.10 Adaptable communication for all Railway The objective is to overcome the current limitation of GSM-R by means of the application of the up to date technologies. The new system will be bearer independent, resilient to radio technology evolution, high performance, backward compatible to ERTMS. Cyber security To define a cyber-security system dedicated to Railways through the application of the cyber-security methodology ensuring high availability, authentication and integrity, improving compatibility and interoperability by standardizing the security system at European level. IP2 TD2.3 TMS evolution SPECIFIC SUBSYSTEMS SIGNALLING & SUPERVISION SYSTEMS COMMUNICATION AND DATA PROTECTION PROCESSES AND TESTING Fail Safe Train Posit.
