Declaration Forms Once you complete the PME in Post Primary Education course with Hibernia College, you will register as a teacher with the Teaching Council of Ireland. In order to do this, you need to meet their requirements in at least ONE of your two subjects. You must ascertain whether you meet these requirements BEFORE applying to Hibernia College. You must complete a Subject Declaration Form for each of your registrable subjects.

Each Subject Declaration Form allows you to match your degree, (and other qualifications if applicable), against the Teaching Council’s curricular teaching subject requirements. The Subject Declaration Form outlines what credits and modules you need to register in a subject. There is then space for you to fill in your course modules and credits awarded. You should have your degree transcripts or list of modules to hand when filling out the forms to speed up the process.

Costs Application Fee : €60. Course Fees : €7,500 per annum Fees are subject to change Tax relief on the course fees is available to students at the standard rate for the relevant tax year Find out more at www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it31.html

You will need to submit either one or two Subject Declaration Forms when applying to Hibernia College, depending on whether you have one or two ‘registrable’ subjects. If you are offered a place on the PME in Hibernia College, the College will, in accordance with the permission granted by you on your Subject Declaration Form(s). Forward your Subject Declaration Form(s) to the Teaching Council, the professional standards body for teaching in Ireland. They will advise if you meet the requirements for registration set out in the Teaching Council registration regulations.

2nd Teaching Subject Student Teachers can register with the Teaching Council in one or more subjects based on the content of their degree. Any student who does not have a second subject recognised by the Teaching Council will be required to undertake a second curriculum methodology. In such cases, suitability to study the second subject methodology as part of the PME will be assessed by the Programme Director. In some cases, substantial work experience and/or alternative study in a second subject may enable the student to choose this subject as a second methodology.

The Interview Interviews take place in Dublin, generally Monday-Thursday, some Saturday slots Approx. 35 minutes long Interview panel of 2 Interview assesses: Motivations and the Profession Suitability to Teach and Subject Knowledge (in both subjects) Knowledge of Hibernia College and the PMEPP programme Competencies Applicants should expect to be asked questions relating to both teaching subjects Language candidates can expect at least one question to be asked and answered in the target language Music candidates must perform a short piece

Candidates must consider the question and honestly consider how confident they feel that they can answer such a question. Candidates must use a red and green light to indicate that they are very confident (green) or not very confident (red). Based on these responses, interview panelists will ask two questions within the interview. These two questions will be asked during the ‘Suitability to Teach & Subject Knowledge’ section.
