Theme and Characterization

Theme is the central idea of a piece of literature Sometimes called “the moral of the story” For example the theme of “The Three Little Pigs” is to work hard or survival of the fittest.

Characterization Is how an author provides you information about characters

Flat and Round Characters Flat Characters Only a few things are known about flat characters Round Characters Many characteristics are known about round characters Examples in Shrek Flat- Gingy Round- Shrek, Fiona

Static and Dynamic Characters Static Characters don’t change during the course of the plot Dynamic Characters change during the course of the plot Examples in Shrek Static- Farquad Dynamic- Dragon
