9. Warnings & Notice The corresponding Serial Port comes out in Cura. User Manual User Manual 9. Warnings & Notice  Warnings: During the operation, the nozzle may reach a high temperature of 250 ℃, the platform is inclined to reach 100 ℃. To ensure your safety and to avoid a fire or deformation of models, any touch with models, nozzle, or platform is prohibited. Please don't run the 3D printer when the machine is unattended. While operation, some material will produce a slight odor. Please use this device in a well-ventilated environment. In addition, when printing, please try to keep the printer away from the stream, which might influence the quality of your prints. Keep away from water or some flammable devices. Notice: ABS will give out a slight odor while printing. Please leave the 3D printer away from water, or water might damage the machine. While printing, please don't cut off the power or pull out the SD card. This will cause loss of model data. When loading filament, nozzle tends to squeeze filament. Please make sure that the nozzle is lifted above the printing platform by at least 50 mm. Otherwise nozzle might be clogged. In process of maintenance, remember to unplug the device. The corresponding Serial Port comes out in Cura. 23 24

Cura Setting Instruction Cura Manual Cura Setting Instruction

Cura Manual Click Machine>Machine settings…

Cura Manual Setting the data as the following picture shows. Click “Ok”. Note: Cura software supports for the STL File. After finishing your model with software such as Proe/UG/Solid works / 3 d Max, you are expected to save it as a STL file by going through the File > save as STL File. Ant then save the gcode to sd card for printing.

Cura Manual Settings for PLA: Layer height (mm) should be 0.1~0.3 (less layer height, more accurate but takes more time). Shell thickness (mm) should be bigger than nozzle diameter and will influence the hardness (should be times of nozzle size). Enable retraction: prevent snagging (material flow). Please decrease the minimum travel if it occurs stringing or oozing. Fill: influence the hardness of the bottom (please use glue or tape for warp issue). Bottom thickness: Adjust with layer height & nozzle diameter. Fill Density (%): should be 20%~40%. Speed and Temperature: PLA (190~220) . Print speed(mm/s): resolution less than 1 mm should be controlled below 20 mm/s. Support: everywhere+ raft (touch builder just suits for few structures). We have to clean the support after printing.

Note: Layer thickness: This might vary depending on the complexity of the part geometry. A thicker layer requires high desired saturation. Using a high saturation also leads to the same problem. Material flow: This is the amount of binder released from the individual nozzle of the print head, and depends on the binder density. This gives an idea about desired saturation. Speed: This also depends on the material and structure, and is very important for uniform spreading. Material with more corner requires a relatively slower spread speed, whereas relatively higher spread speed could be set for coarse particles. The distance between nozzle and plate when printing is quite important for the whole quality.

Distance should be 3.5-4.5 and will influence the retraction. Travel speed are suggested to be around 70 mm/s. Infill speed should be 50-70 mm/s. Outer shell speed should be 40 mm/s. Minimal layer time will be bigger than cooling time. When printing PLA, click enable cooling fan.

Cura Manual Settings for ABS (240~260)

Note 1 Now while there are many thermoplastics, very few of them are currently used for 3D Printing. For a material to prove viable for 3D Printing, it has to pass three different tests: initial extrusion into Plastic Filament, second extrusion and trace-binding during the 3D Printing process, then finally end use application. ABS - Its strength, flexibility, machinability, and higher temperature resistance make it often a preferred plastic for engineers, and professional applications. The hot plastic smell deter some as does the plastics petroleum based origin. The additional requirement of a heated print bed means there are some printers simply incapable of printing ABS with any reliability. PLA - The wide range of available colors and translucencies and glossy feel often attract those who print for display or small household uses. Many appreciate the plant based origins and prefer the semi-sweet smell over ABS. When properly cooled, PLA seems to have higher maximum printing speeds, lower layer heights, and sharper printed corners. Combining this with low warping on parts make it a popular plastic for home printers, hobbyists, and schools.

Note 2 PLA More brittle than ABS Can droop if it gets too hot, for example, if it is left in a hot car in the summer time Usually turns white along the high stress zone when it is bent, then breaks into lots of little pieces Even though it is made from plants, it may contain dyes and binders which are not food safe Smells sweet when it is being printed Strength is relatively equal to ABS ABS Impact resistant and tough Hard Glossy Petroleum based Flammable Prone to cracking if cooled too quickly Usually bends before it breaks Has a strong, toxic smell when it is being printed Strength is relatively equal to PLA

Note 3 ABS requires higher temperatures to extrude than PLA. That often requires that you use a hot plate to print on so the part does not cool too fast as it is being printed. PLA, on the other hand, frequently prints better if there is a fan blowing on the part to cool it down before it can droop. ABS usually needs a fully up to temperature heat bed or the part may not work. PLA , on the other hand benefits from cool blowing air to keep its temperature down so it does not droop. But it can also benefit from a heated print bed. Many people have had good results printing ABS, a form of Polyimide tape which is surprisingly expensive. But it usually lasts a long time. Some people find that PLA works great unheated on blue painters tape but the tape needs to be replaced fairly frequently.
