History The Legend St. Helena went to Calvary in 300 A.D. to find Jesus’ cross. She found three crosses in the same place where Jesus and the two thieves were crucified.

History The Legend She ordered her sick servant to lie down on all of the crosses. When he touched one of them,he was miraculously cured. The festival was introduced to the country during the Spanish period and continues to be celebrated by Filipinos all over the world every May.

Purpose The festival is celebrated to commemorate St. Helena’s discovery of the crosses and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Each young woman that is part of the parade symbolizes an important character in Christianity,excluding those that symbolize the Aetas and Muslims.
