Independent Summer Reading assessment Using the independent reading book you finished this summer, create an alternative book cover. This book cover should have the following five different aspects to it, each explaining a major component of the book. Each of these elements should be explained fully. Elements You Need: Color Font Book Review Event  Summary

Check out the example to see how each element plays a part: Color: The color should represent the mood the author leaves you with. It should symbolize the over-all feeling you have at the end of the book Font: The font you write the title and author in should represent the genre. It should symbolize what kind of book a reader should be prepared for upon opening the cover. Book Review: (You make this up) This should be one sentence describing the book in a way that makes others want to read it. It should be short and sweet, but more than one word. The review should come from a well-known author or celebrity that your book’s ideal reader would be drawn to. Event: Your cover should hint at one of the events in the book without giving too much away. You can communicate this event through simple objects or symbols as well as fully illustrated scenes.  Summary: On the back of your book cover, you should include a summary of the book. This should entice readers and encourage them to take this book off the shelf. This summary must be five sentences or more.
