We implement tomorrows Human Factors as a standard available today The modern high level of integration environment in a modern control rooms or operations center is the not only the heart of the operation but also the brain.
The Extended Operator Workplace has true advantages Empowering operator alertness Improve correct & fast decision-making Reduce unnecessary downtime Attract the new generation of operators Increase each operators efficiency Increase the possibility to share information Create attractive 24-7 environments and prevent operator boredom and fatigue Best utilization of space At least 30% space reduction compared to traditional solutions Superior intelligent ergonometrics

Higher level of integration allows to expand a lot in existing environments By using a higher level of integration, which the EOW-x concept is built for, it is many times possible to expand and modernize in existing environments. The higher level of integrated organization often requires fewer active inside and outside operators due to more efficient process overview and the ability to easily to interpret the whole situation.
Early and extended involvement By involving ABB and CGM at an early stage, customers can receive layout proposals and pre-study services for the control room and adjacent areas for new or remodeled control rooms which will result in the latest and most ergonometric environments and efficient solutions.

Even through a more simplified pre-studies, we will be able to eliminate many obstacles in safety adaptation, ergonomics and economy – at an early stage – since we constantly work on the basis that it should be possible to adapt and change the workplace in the future. Our intention is always to create a total solution that is proven in reality, not only on the drawing board. Our experience is that a good design that meet and even exceed industrial standard requirements does not necessarily need to be more expensive. Our creative thinking aiming to put the operator in focus is an important issue with regard to the complex environment of modern control rooms. The ISO 11 064 design process described in all 7 steps. The EEMUA 201 is also a common standard regarding the design of control rooms, however these are only guidelines CRIOP analyzes and NORSOK requirements can also be added to mentioned guidelines.

University and Human Factors involved to measure operator fatigue “As we see it, the constellation of Chalmers, CGM/FOC and ABB has a unique opportunity to push the development of modern control room environments into a world leading position. CGM has the ideas and the visionary inspiration to create the control rooms of the future while ABB has the resources to realise the ideas and apply them in industrial settings. Chalmers role in the collaboration is to provide methodological and scientific rigour together with valuable knowledge of the latest research from the global human factors engineering community. The control room demo lab at CGM has the potential to strengthen ABBs position as developers of technology that takes the human aspects into account by providing the means for operator effectiveness.” Anna-Lisa Osvalder Expected findings due to measured operator efficiency means proven cost savings. We shall measure real operators working with basic level vs. higher level of integration.
In the spring of 2012 Chalmers has been testing the effectiveness of the EOW, and compared it to the traditional way of working with control room design. To facilitate the test Chalmers has I corporation with ABB created a simulation of a “color factory” State of the art ergonomic and high level of integration environment Basic level of integration that fulfill standard traditional requirements Chalmers evaluating the positive alertness effect by working with the EOW-x Concept

Human Factors ergonomic studies in an early phase is important for the end result
The Extended Operator Workplace (EOW) concept is built up with two different solutions. The EOW-x concept is our super premium solution for customers that put Human Factors questions and ergonomics high on the agenda The EOW-f concept is our universal solution that fulfills traditional requirements but has less functionality and integration compared to the EOW-x EOW-x3 EOW-f2 The two different EOW models in two sizes have the same footprint in a layout The EOW-x is a full ergonomic console and the EOW-f is a simplified solution with less ergonometric functions and integration with System 800xA.
