Presentation transcript:

NCI Support for Centers Robert Croyle, Ph.D. Director DCCPS Most investigators here are very familiar with NCI and DCCPS tables of organization, research resources and funding priorities. So I thought I would focus on NCI support for research centers as a backdrop of our support for the CPCRN.

FY2004 Budget: $4,723,893,000

NCI Cancer Centers Program

NCI/NIEHS Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Centers Homepage: DCCPS Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program

Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Centers Study the prenatal-to-adult environmental exposures that may predispose a woman to breast cancer Funded jointly by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Cancer Institute $5 million a year over seven years / $35 million Funded Centers: University of Cincinnati Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA University of California, San Francisco Michigan State University, East Lansing

Matt Kreuter is a CPCRN PI

Summary NCI (& DCCPS) support many research centers focused on discovery CPCRN different in its primary focus on moving discovery into delivery CPCRN also represents an important opportunity for CDC and NCI to coordinate and collaborate on cancer control research support
