The concept of career guidance The hungarian terminology expresses professional help in: Career choice and Career development

Changes in the system As a result of permanent changes in career counselling is now a multi-party system which ensure the support in the field of education and labour and it is essential to prepare for a career.

The national system of vocational guidance Ministry of Education Ministry of Labour and Employment National Employment Service - educational institutions - pedagogical institutions - training institutions - Employment Information Consulting - Psychological services - Youth counseling

Legal background The rules to apply to secondary schools and the process of preliminary depends on the 20/2012. (VIII. 31.) EMMI regulation. By the beginning of the school year the next school year schedule is controlled by this regulation. It contains the timing of preliminary to secondary school and Public Educational Bridge program for the current school year. Deadlines are determined when secondary schools publicize the course codes and career choice. Information available on this website in the session of secondary schooling: http://www.oktatas.hu/hivatali_ugyek After that schools publish the information on their own websites. It begins with the primary school students’ application which they arrange via the filled out application form.

Factors influencing the career choice: Family background, school, students’ own decisions, labour market needs.

Condition of a successful career choice: Sufficient knowledge about careers, realistic self-knowledge, career maturity: determined aims, personal value system, value orientation, harmonizing personal abilities and the need of the career.

Supporting students with information in choosing right careers: Parents, family, primary school, secondary school, Pedagogical Agency, Education Agency, Government Agencies.

Available for students via primary schools: Who and how? Parents, family: Pay attention to the child’s interest, the family background helps the decision. Publications

Secondary institutions: Primary schools hold career choice performances so they inform students and their parents and they introduce their schools and their courses.
