Warm Up What are the most popular/ the most unusual/ the most exciting pastimes? Are your favourite pastimes seasonal? What is your hobby? Does it require special equipment? Who can you recommend your hobby to?

Task 1. Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it. Some of the most popular pastimes are listening to music, reading, playing sports, painting, fishing, gardening, travelling, cooking, learning foreign languages, collecting  stamps and coins. Although, there are a great number of other activities that people choose as their hobbies. Some of them are really rare and strange and  some are very difficult and unique. They include tornado chasing, ghost hunting, collecting insects or celebrity autographs, doing extreme sports  and many other hobbies. Hobbies and interests are good because they help people  relax and switch off from daily routine, become well-rounded and discover their hidden talents. Also, hobbies are a great way to spend  their free time and give them the great chance to learn, for example, some new skills. Hobbies can also help meet those people who have the same interests and make good friends.  Moreover, they  give us something creative to do, and that improves our self-esteem.

Task 2. Study the advertisement. You see a bill of a concert and want to find out more information about this concert. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask five questions to find out the following: 1) location of the concert hall 2) date and time of the concert 3) availability of tickets 4) price of tickets 5) buying tickets online You have 20 seconds to ask each question.

Task 2. Questions: structure and intonation Auxiliary subject verb ( … ) ? Wh auxiliary subject verb ( … ) ? Who (subject) verb ( … ) ? Pronounce the questions with correct intonation: Where is the concert hall situated? How much does a ticket cost? Are tickets still available? When is the concert held? Is it possible to buy tickets on-line? Are tickets sold on-line?

· when you took the photo Task 3. Imagine that you are preparing a project “My Friends’ Hobbies and Pastimes”. You have taken some interesting photos. Choose one photo to present to your classmate. You have one minute to think it over. You will have to start speaking in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more than 2 minutes. You have to talk continuously. In your talk remember to speak about: · when you took the photo · what/who is in the photo · what is happening · why you took the photo · why you decided to show the picture to your friend Photo 1.
