How it Applies If we are looking at 0.9 we are looking at 9 tenths which can be written as 9/10 If we are looking at 0.09 We are looking at 9 hundredths Which can be written as 9/100 If we are looking at 0.009 We are looking at 9 thousandth Which can be written as 9/1000
Examples .99 =99/100 .205 =205/1000 3 =3/1
Counting #’s after the decimal Each decimal is written over a 1 with a set number of 0’s The amount of 0’s is the number of places after the decimal the number is. For example 0.0356, there are 4 number places after the decimal So there will be four 0’s after the 1: 10000 So the fraction would be 356/10000
Examples .0245 =245/10000 .264454 =264454/1000000 .23 =23/100
