Riddle Chemical Barn RRT Activation: None Type and amount of product: 353 containers of flammable liquids & solids, oxidizers, poisons/toxins, corrosives; 20 lbs elemental Hg, 35 gal drum of cyanide powder, and sodium powder. Cause of incident: Death of one of PRPs and foreclosure or property; No one in residence; no upkeep of property Date of response: July 14 - 15, 2017 Potentially Responsible Party: Bank & mortgage company; previous residents – one dead and one transient Key operational activities: 1)Conduct assessment, categorization of chemical containers. 2) Removal of hazardous chemicals and waste posing a threat of release of release to the environment and threat to public health. Major lessons learned: This kind of site is common in R10 – abandoned facility or one owned by party with no resources (often gold miner) – within inadequate and dangerous storage of multiple types chemicals and mercury.
