Simple Sentences One independent clause It has a subject and a verb It is a complete sentence I like to ride my bicycle. Do you play basketball often? My sister and I are going shopping.

Complex Sentences One independent clause and one dependent clause. A dependent clause has a subject and a verb but is not a complete sentence. After Sharon finished her homework, she called her best friend to talk. Dependent Independent
