Primary purposes of the course Explore the 16 National Career Clusters Provide students with information/knowledge to make informed decisions when selection AOC/ High school schedules

Foundation Knowledge and Skills (FKS) - A set of knowledge and skills common in all careers.

Employability Characteristics needed such as, punctuality, attendance, appropriate dress, hygiene, accepting direction and criticism, adapting to change, completing projects, and managing time. Good fit for the job / well qualified.

Career Development Actively engaged in setting goals for personal living, earning a living, and establishing a plan for reaching these personal goals. Always improving skills and willing to learn new things.

Communication The ability to speak, listen, read and write to function successfully in a variety of settings including school, home, and the worksite.

Information Technology Applications Able to understand and use technology and willing to make changes as it changes. E-mail Search the Web Use different software applications

Teamwork Ability to respectfully interact with diverse individuals or groups, including the ability to handle difficult situations and manage conflict in a positive way.

Legal Responsibilities and Ethics Having an understanding of the laws and company policies within a profession. The rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession.

Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Identifying problems or situations requiring a solution, understanding the context, circumstances or facts related to the situation, and working toward a solution

Safety, Health, and the Environment Keep self and others safe by following policies on safety. Have an understanding and be able to demonstrate and promote health and safety issues that are most important to the work environment.

Systems Important to have a good understanding of relationships among coworkers and its importance to the overall productivity and smooth operation of the workplace relationship between the use of technology and having smooth and accurate business operations your role (what is expected of you) for having set policies and procedures in the workplace

Technical Skills You will be able to choose and use tools and equipment that are needed to do your work. You need to know enough about equipment to be able to teach others how to use it. Examples: For example, a farmer will know what farm equipment he or she needs and be able to use it. A photographer will know what camera equipment he or she needs to take good pictures and know how to operate the equipment.

Career Fields - A broad grouping of the 16 career clusters based on commonalities among clusters. There is a total of six fields.

Career Cluster Within the Career Fields, occupations are grouped into 16 career areas. These broad groups share similar skills or common themes based on industry groupings and all education levels. Area of Concentration/Pathway Within a Career Cluster, occupations with similar characteristics are grouped. Career Specialties A specific job title or area of expertise within a pathway of a cluster
