Welcome to Ms. Street’s Class!!! Thursday, October 5th, 2017 Algebra/Modelling mstreet@yonkerspublicschools.org

Supplies Everyday I expect your child to come prepared to learn! This includes having the following: A writing utensil (pen or pencil, I don’t care…) Math notebook/binder/sections I will give you notes, but I still suggest you take your OWN! I love my colleagues, but I don’t want to see Ms. Scott’s or Ms. Jagessar’s , or Mr./Ms whoever’s work in MY section. Dry Erase Markers. I want to see your classwork! A highlighter. We need to break down the most important info in these ugly word problems. A folder (Highly Suggested). That way you can stay organized with your assignments/tests/quizzes that are returned to you.

Homework When homework is assigned, I expect it to be completed. It won’t be a ridiculous amount, but it will be enough to ensure that your child has an opportunity to practice and attempt to master what we have done in class that day. I accept late homework, but please don’t wait until the end of the marking period. Not a good move!

Classwork & Participation 25% Homework 20% Attendance 5% Grading Policy Opportunities for extra credit will be given throughout the marking period! ITEM PERCENTAGE Tests and Quizzes 50% Classwork & Participation 25% Homework 20% Attendance 5%

What is Common Core Algebra? A year long course that covers a variety of topics from number sense and operations, to manipulating equations of all types, to probability and statistics. All within the context of the real-world. Course terminates with the Algebra Regents in June. Students must score 65% or higher to pass Passing score on the Common Core Algebra Regents is a requirement for NYS graduation. Students will then move on to Geometry.

What is Modeling with Algebra/Geometry? A year long course that covers a variety of topics from Algebra and Geometry designed for students who have been unsuccessful at passing the Common Core Algebra Regents previously. Students have two opportunities to pass the Common Core Algebra Regents. Split into two parts: Pre-January Algebra Regents (Regents Topics Review and Prep) Post-January Algebra Regents (Intro to Geometry and Regents Topics Review and Prep for students who still need to pass). Course terminates in the Algebra Regents in June. Students must score 65% or higher to pass Passing score on the Algebra Regents is a requirement for NYS graduation.

If you are struggling, don’t keep spinning your wheels! Ask for HELP!!! The fourth marking period is too late. All the extra credit in the world won’t help!
