“In the world today” assignment “In the world today” assignments you will look at current news that has been posted in the last 24 hours. These assignments are good for your brain in a few ways: You learn about current events in the world and can talk in a educated way about different issues They get you to start thinking about news writing more critically They can be used to reinforce different skills and ideas we are learning in the classroom.

Today’s Assignment Find three articles that were posted in the last 24 hours Complete the following analysis questions about each article: 1. Headline______________________________________________________________ 2. What about the headline drew you into the article? 3. Lead___________________________________________________________________ Who? What? Where? When? Why? 4. Explain how the article either did or did not use the inverted pyramid structure (most important info on top, least important info on the bottom) 5. Which of the 8 rules of newsworthiness applies to this article? (Can be more than one) 6. What does the article teach you about the state of the world today?
