MOTION GRAPHICS By Ugnius

Introduction What is Motion Graphics? Motion Graphics are a type of graphics that are used in video, films and animation which try to create illusion of motion to the human eye. Motion Graphics are usually created using multi media such as audio, text, still images or even interactivity. When is it used? Motion Graphics is used everyday In the 21st century. Motion graphics has become a key role in videos, adverts, films, internet and banners. Whenever you watch TV, watch a video online or have a walk down one of London's busiest roads such as Oxford street, you will see motion graphics being used all around you on advert stands or massive advertising screens on top of buildings. However, in the passed Motion graphics was very expensive and wasn’t figured out to the extent that it has been now so you wouldn’t have seen It around very often. In fact it was so rare that only the richest people could afford it.

Film title Sequence (Star Wars) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKRIUiyF0N4 There is a very famous title sequence that is a very brilliant example of using simple but effective writing and transitions which is the Star wars title sequence. This title sequence only uses 3 different types of effects which is writing scrolling up the screen (Bottom to top), the fade transition between the two sectors of writing (Blue to yellow) and also the ‘Big to small’ effect which makes the writing seem like its going far away. The scrolling text is also rotated at a 3D axis. We can see this on the video at: *00:05 – 00:35 *Multimedia is also used as sound is mixed with video and text to create the title sequence. The frame rate used to create this film and title sequence would have been 29.97 frames per second which is the American television standard (NTSC).

TV Title sequence SAF3 Tv Series This TV Title sequence was mostly shot using live scenery and live movement however quiet a few effects have been used and there are also usages of green screen. Effects: -Flash Effect (Through out the video) -Green screen (00:24-00:30/01:03-01:07) -Zoom (00:03-00:05) -Fade effects used on text. -Colour correction -Slow Motion This video was most likely edited on softwares such as Cyberlink power director, corel visual studio, Sony Vegas Pro or Adobe after effects. *Multimedia has been used such as music, text, still image and video. This was filmed for South African TV, this means that it was filmed at 25 frames per second (PAL) which is the standard for British TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjjpzdZs7rA

Computer games Need for Speed Hot Pursuit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70KSkiZKIcU -Rotoscoping has been used in this game to create the cars and faces of characters as real as possible. (1:54) (4:38) -The credits of the game use mapping. (6:25) -The graphics within the game are created in a software such as illustrator. -You can also say that this game Menu and actual game Uses CGI ( Computer generated imagery). (0:50) (4:13) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFWp3QHIO9E

Music video Missy Elliot – Get ur freak on’ Through out this whole video, green screen has been used to make a ‘Imaginary place’. It uses real life performers to which they match their dance and movements to make it seem like they are leaning on real life objects however its only graphics. (00:45-00:50) At the start of the video photographs are being used and the ‘Flash effect’ is matched up with the sound effect to make it seem like the pictures are being taken. (00:02-00:05) -0:20 uses warping in between frames. Other effects like picture blurring and colour focusing has been used. (00:16-00:20) -Black an white effect *(02:21 – 02:25) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPoKiGQzbSQ

Internet banner Emphysema This internet banner is simple but different. It is an internet banner to advertise Emphysema. -The banner contains red writing which fades into different paragraphs. -Interesting part is that the actual banner changes shape (squeezing effect) when the voice over asks you to breath in and out. This represents how your lungs work when breathing with Emphysema and also uses interactivity. The squeezing effect is made on Flash. You would add 2 points to the left and right sides of the square and tween it so it goes in and out. The Shape changing and effects used for writing is motion graphics. http://www.digitalsynopsis.com/quit-victoria-emphysema

TV channel ident Film4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IglmYEc-sw8 -Film 4 TV ident is very simple. -2 cars slowed down using slow motion and recorded crashing in the background. -Text used on top of the video of cars crashing. -4 different video blocks used to separate the video and advertise the channel. This is done on after effects by adding many masks which at first cover up the text & then uncover it when its finished.
