Class goal The goal of Spanish class is to learn how to communicate is Spanish. The best way to learn a language is by speaking the language. In our class we will speak Spanish most of the time, about two thirds of the class, this technique is called the “Natural Approach”. We also use our buddies to communicate, that is called T.P.R. (Total Physical Response). Not to worry, there we will time for the use of English for specific lessons, instructions, grammar, culture and geography of the target languages. This time can also used to clear confusions, to discuss homework and project assignments, etc.

Class expectations Spanish class expectations: 1. You must comply with our classroom etiquette (see below). 2. You must come prepared to learn. That means to have an attitude that shows that you are here to study, to learn, to become skilled at speaking, reading and writing in Spanish. You are not here to play or to socialize. However, learning Spanish will be fun and it will require some socialization.

Class Expectations 3. Be on time, and do not interrupt your learning time with bathroom brake. Go to the bathroom before or after Spanish, bathroom privileges will only be given on emergencies situations. 4. Have your materials with you, your text book, a pen or pencil and a notebook or composition book, plus your homework assignments, and projects. Note. The most important tools for Spanish class: your brains and your mouth. Try, try and try again, don’t be afraid, if your answer is wrong just try again.

Classroom etiquette Classroom, etiquette (rules of acceptable and polite behavior): You must lift your hand up and wait to get permission to speak unless otherwise instructed. You must stay in your seat and respect the space of your neighbors. You must never, never make fun, laugh, ridicule or try to putdown any other student for mispronounce or say any thing incorrect in Spanish. It is true that when learning a new language, we all make mistakes and say thing that are funny. It is okay to laugh at the funny statement, but not at the person who made the mistake. So be prepared to laugh at your self when you are the one saying funny things.

Grading Percentages of you grades: Participation/notebook = 34% Projects/homework = 33% Quizzes/tests = 33% Participation. Participate in class discussion, answer questions, ask questions, project presentation, read aloud for the class, being a team leader, participate in class games, help other students and the teacher when instructed to do so, are examples of how to get these participation points. Notebook. Write and keep together all notes from class in a folder, binder or composition book. Classwork/homework. Any project completed in class or at home.
