Cleopatra VII By: Cicely Batie Pd. 7

Childhood Her Father Ptolemy XII was Pharaoh of Egypt, but caused many economic and politic problems She grew up in Alexandria the Great City of Egypt

Coming to Power She had no intentions of ruling with her brother and soon became the independent leader when she was 18. She took the manifestation of the goddess Isis to appear to the Egyptians. Her father died and left her in power, but it was in his will she not rule alone, so she was forced to marry her 12-year-old brother Ptolemy XIII.

Julius Caesar She then became Caesar’s mistress and made political tensions interesting when she bore him a son- Caesarion. She was exiled from Egypt by her brother but was able to smuggle herself into see Caesar by having her servants roll her up in a Persian rug.

Returning to Egypt Caesar sets Cleopatra up as the ruler in Egypt now with her infant son as her co-ruler Cleopatra was probably not the beautiful temptress many make her out to be, but with a combined intelligence and wit she managed to ensnare several Roman leaders

Death of Caesar Julius Caesar is murdered in Rome by Brutus and Cassius who engage in a war with Mark Antony and Octavian to gain power. Antony and Octavian succeed and split the power as one rules the Eastern Roman Empire and the other the Western.

Cleopatra & Mark Antony Cleopatra makes alliances with Antony and soon the two become lovers- She bares him with a set of twins and another son. Antony and Cleopatra have a traditional Egyptian wedding and he is represented as an Egyptian god and their three children are instituted as their successors after Caesarion.

Death Octavian goes to war with his former ally Antony, and after loosing the Battle of Actium Antony commits suicide. Cleopatra commits suicide soon after Antony along with her to attendants. A common theory as to how she committed it was with the bite of a poisonous Asp.
