Presentation transcript:

Scale / Skew / Overlap / Space ABSTRACTION You will choose and draw/ paint a minimum of 7 objects. The objects must vary in scale and orientation so that you lose all sense of what they are, their normal orientation, and any sense of negative space or normal space. (Objects can be floating, upside down, etc.) After your composition is complete per the above requirements, you will choose a color scheme to complete your project. How can color contribute to your final artwork? Look at other artwork for color schemes that you enjoy.

Non of these is fits this assignment, but they are good starting points for general compositional ideas Notice the overlap. What if colors did not always cut off? Objects should merge into each other.

Objectives Fill the entire space with 7 semi detailed line drawings (contour line is okay too, but more than just outlines). Your drawings should be accurate enough to tell what each object is when looked at very closely. Abstraction does not mean messy. The entire space must be broken up. There is no “background” so change colors up. Objects should go off every edge in multiple places. Use more objects to do this if necessary. No “blank” areas. Each space is considered. Consider variety and contrast by making some areas more dense with lines (or other elements) than others, but also ensure your composition is balanced. Objects should not relate to each other in their real space scale. Perhaps a hand fills almost the whole canvas, and a guitar is very small. They should all overlap! Objects should have no sense of gravity, they float around. Perhaps flip the canvas or paper between drawing each object. Include some strong diagonal lines for movement. Include pattern, texture, and/ or blended values in your completed artwork.

15 points 7 points: 1 point for each detailed and overlapped line drawing. 2 points: entire space used and broken up, no negative or unoccupied space. 2 points: All objects appear as they would with no gravity. Objects vary in size, and skew (angle) 3 points: Pattern, texture, and blended values are present (and help with contrast and variety). 1 point: Composition is balanced and interesting
