What impression does this video give you?

What is a Stakeholder? A stakeholder is someone with an interest or concern in something. In the redevelopment of a local area who would be stakeholders? Government Businesses Locals Groups

Slough background Slough is located in Berkshire and has a population of 140,000 people. Racial tensions are high, with only 34.5% being White British. There are no racial enclaves like many other cities – all the different communities are mixed and live together. In the last 100 years there have been large influxs of people from Wales, Scotland, Poland and a growth in the number of Sikh, Hindu and Muslims living in Slough.

What is happening in Slough? Managing and resolving tensions Regenerating Slough What evidence can be found that there are issues over changes to living in Slough? What are the key stakeholders who can foster positive social change? Find out what has happened in Slough to manage the area and create a more positive and cohesive town. Some stakeholders can foster positive cultural change -E.g. charities http://aiksaath.com/

Who are the stakeholders in Slough?

Urban players in Slough Local Government – Slough Borough Council – Decides the priorities for the area e.g. what land should be used for. Companies – Enticed by the Slough Regeneration Partnership after the council and building firm agreed to regenerate the town. Environmentalists – The council is responsible for community health by looking after air quality and safety (street lighting, pavements etc) but is challenged due to poor air quality caused by the M4 and Heathrow Airport. Charities – Groups such as Aik Saath work with multi-ethnic communities to improve schools and workplaces. Housing Association – The biggest challenge in Slough is a lack of affordable rental housing and so groups can work to help provide this.

Plenary – Who is the most important at making decisions? Why? Local Government Companies Environmentalists Charities Housing Association Local People National government
