Please click screen ONCE to begin presentation. TRAIN IMPACT Rail Crossing Safety on Vale Property Developed by the Vale Transportation Department Presentation Created by Kèv Rayner September 2011 Please click screen ONCE to begin presentation.

In 2008 there were 214 crossing collisions across Canada 26 resulted in fatalities 36 others were seriously injured

Approximately 50% of vehicle/train collisions occur at crossings with active warning devices (gates, lights, bells)

STOP sign and cross bucks at minimum All rail crossings on Vale property in Ontario Operations are equipped with a STOP sign and cross bucks at minimum

An average of 17% did rolling stops. Almost 2% did not stop at all. Close to 3000 vehicles crossed at 3 specific rail crossings over a 36 hour period. An average of 17% did rolling stops. Almost 2% did not stop at all. In June 2011 an audit was done in the smelter complex.

The Transportation Department did something to create an impact, to reduce that risk, aiming for zero harm...

… by creating this video to get the message across.

Always stop to check both ways at rail crossings. Don’t take the risk. Always stop to check both ways at rail crossings. Thank you and have a safe day.
