Activities of the ME section during LS2 (2019-2021) Preventive & corrective maintenance Consolidations Projects Conclusion

Mechanical Maintenance Compressors Oil Pumps Filters (gas, oil, coalescers, separators, adsorbers) Heat exchangers Valves, safety valves, bursting disks Vacuum components (pumps & valves) Requalification of pressurized equipment by AET (80 m3 @ P8) General mechanical support to other preventive tasks (Cold CP, MAPAG, motors, pressure tests, …) and corrective activities (CB repair, valves repair, …) Inventory and resource to be consolidated Managed by CRG-ME, with CRG-ME and S176 resource Managed by CRG-ML and S176. Less resource from CRG-ME Managed by ME with OP Managed by OP/ML/CE. No input now. Heavy impact on CRG-ME resource

Compressors : preventive maintenance Based on last year measured operation hours Spares are used as buffer Major overhauling of all CPs were performed in less than 1 year at the LS1 with a planning based on batch / installation Final assessment -> maintenance windows needed from OP Coherent strategy with motors ? -> OMP

Oil pumps : maintenance / consolidations LS2 maintenance Preventive maintenance for oil pumps (various PMs @ 8’000 / 24’000 / 40’000 h) -> S176 Pumps with shaft seal issues (KRAL, Allweiller) -> upgrade/consolidations to new pumps with magnetic coupling -> VFD from CRG-CE Coherent strategy with motors ? -> OMP LS2 consolidations : LHC KRAL : replacement with magnetic coupling + VFD LHC IMO pumps : improvement of support (#14/15) LHC DESMI pump : final consolidation ATLAS SR : upgrade of one oil pump (magnetic coupling) ATLAS MR CP6 : replace centrifugal oil pump by volumetric one ? Impact on ME resource: Relatively low

LS2 consolidations Impact on ME resource: Low High Medium Medium/High High - TBD TBD Additional oil fine filters in // of the present oil pump filter (QSCA-4/6, QSCB, QSCC-Mayekawa) QSCA : elastomer under concrete blocks (# 32 skids) QSDH-18 (and QSDH-4 ?) (TBC) : Swap of supply TLs CV061 to CV062 Removal of air HX and new return to LP TL QUI : purge collectors, instrum (TT, 600 kW, …) QUI : additional DN250 «MAPAG» valves ? By-Pass QUI lineD/LineD and/or QSRa-b return line D ? Sectorization valve outlet turbines TU2&4 on QSRA-4/6 1 or 2 QRL compensators ? QRL valves ? QSV valves ? QSCA-2 new compressors ? Oil cleaning LHCA P4/P6 adsorbers and HX and/or other LHC ORS consolidation ? ATLAS ? CMS ? LHC tunnel ?

Main projects during LS2 Impact on ME resource: High Low Medium/High Medium TBD LHC sector pressure tests QRL access platform modification in RH87. (Others ?) SM18: new liquefactor & cryo infrastructure B163/B165 upgrade AD cryoline LHC P4 upgrade «Orphan» projects : TCF-20 and cryoplants for QSDH Isolde LN2 shield system North Area consolidations ?

Projects

CRG-ME LS2 activities conclusion Preventive maintenance : Strategy to be validated (OMP) Maintenance plans to be reviewed and assessed (ME/ML- OMP) LS2 maintenance windows In order to define and assess the necessary CRG-ME resources, more details are needed for the maintenance (support and corrective), and from the consolidations and projects
