B. 163 facility upgrade: work space options in B. 163 and B. 103 F B.163 facility upgrade: work space options in B.163 and B.103 F. Formenti – March 18th, 2016

Outline Space consolidation in B.163 Space consolidation in B.103

Space consolidation in B.163: today situation Small stations #1 to #4 Fresca 1 & 2 Existing sample preparation area Install up to +6 ovens Existing sample preparation area Reminder on main equipment usage: Four small stations operated in parallel for wire tests (average of 12 tests / week) New Fresca 2 for high field cable qualification tests (average of 2 tests / month) Installation of additional Nb3Sn ovens for cable production qualification Space needs: Provide space for small stations sample preparation Provide space for both Fresca 1 & 2 sample preparation Provide space for the new ovens

Space consolidation in B.163: make use of vertical space Recently repositioned Build a mezzanine (~ 22 x 8.4 ≈ 185 m2) to free space at ground floor Install Nb3Sn ovens and new control room on top of mezzanine Integrated solution for all B163 space problems Minimized interference with cable production activities

Mezzanine in B.163 Preliminary cost estimation Metallic structure with control room 162 k€ (178 kchf) Power for 6 ovens 53 kchf Lights ground floor, 230V and lights in control room 12 kchf Re-cabling Fresca controls, IT & PTT cabling in control room 52 kchf Move and reconnect of Brendford power converter ≈ 5 kchf Remove existing control room ≈ 0 kchf TOTAL 300 kchf

Space consolidation in B.103: today situation Spool preparation Cable inspection bench QA laboratories Storage Aims: Regroup cableuse and winding machine in same area Provide enough local storage for production cycles Delimit working zones and keep clear passageways Improve margins of area for production flow

Space consolidation in B.103: building extension proposal 7m95 14m60 Storage IN 5m00 Spool preparation Cable inspection bench Storage OUT QA laboratories 112 m2 Good compromise for fixing present space needs for intense cable production programme Could allow further adaptations for future options Preliminary cost estimation Permis construire, local asbestos treatment, extension works, insulation, modification of underground services 450 kchf Modification air cooling 15 k€ (16.5 kchf) Wall and false roof painting, floor resin 20 kchf Electricity work, IT network, fire detection 45 kchf TOTAL 531.5 kchf
