AM I CAPABLE FOR THIS CAREER? I have wanted to be a teacher since my Kindergarten year. I was always that one student labeled as the teacher’s helper. The one that would watch the class when the teacher stepped out of the room, or the one who helped grade and pass back papers. Also, when I give assistance to others, I put my mind in their perspective so I understand their situation completely. I believe I am ready for this career, as does my family.

Question One What is your favorite part about teaching? Response My favorite part about teaching is the daily interactions with my students. I enjoy getting to know my students, finding out their interests, and trying to make learning fun and exciting for them.

Question Two What is the worst part about teaching? Response The worst part about teaching is going to meetings and not having enough time for planning. I also don't like dealing with discipline problems.

Question Three What age did you realize you wanted to be teacher? Response I was probably older than a lot of people! I didn't think about teaching until I was around 24 years old. I didn't start teaching until I was 30.

Question How has teaching affected your life? Response Teaching has taught me to be more patient and to appreciate the differences in children -specifically differences in culture and ethnicity and socioeconomic differences. There are many rewards in teaching and you have the opportunity to really make a positive difference in children's lives. 

Question What advice would you give teenagers wanting to be teachers? Response Make sure teaching is something that you really want to do because there is a lot more involved than just teaching!! You must love children, have tons of patience, be tolerant and flexible, and be willing to work hard.
