Pureflo ESM Cleaning & Maintenance

Pureflo ESM Respirator Pureflo Respirators are NOT like any other Powered Air Purifying Respirator unit on the market They have a HIGHER level of Protection – APF 1000 The Operator should always stay cleaner when using a Pureflo WHY IS THIS?

Pureflo ESM Respirator What makes the Difference? The NECKCAPE But why is this?

Conventional PAPR Lack of a Neck Cape means the inside of the helmet WILL get dirty and need cleaning.

Pureflo ESM Respirator Neck Cape Provides a mechanical barrier to the filth Enables HIGHER level of Protection Provides a “stored” volume of respirable purified air The entire inside of the helmet is the “Breathing Zone” as defined by OSHA

Breathing Zone The clean side of the Filters Could be the inside of a Disposable or Half Mask Respirator Conventional PAPR Respirators, the zone immediately in front of the mouth

Pureflo ESM with Neckcape Major benefit of the neckcape is to prevent Gross Contamination in use of the inside of the helmet

VERY IMPORTANT! The inside of the helmet MUST be kept clean WHY? This is the Breathing Zone It contains the Air Flow Sensor that sends the control signals to the PCB that controls the motor providing the airflow

VERY IMPORTANT! Failure to keep the inside of the helmet clean will: • Dramatically REDUCE the level of Respiratory Protection • Contamination of the Air Flow Sensor will send false control signals to the PCB

Most common causes of Gross Contamination inside of the helmet. • Incorrect use by Operators • Careless temporary storage at break times • Incorrect Cleaning Procedure (cleaning it like a conventional PAPR!)

Correct Use Ensure headband is correctly adjusted, helmet is level and no more than “1 finger of forehead” is exposed Visor Down! Neckcape Drawstring Closed so that the neckcape puffs up like a balloon.

Correct Storage Break times, at the end of the Shift & after Cleaning In hot climate wipe out excess sweat Visor Down! Neckcape Drawstring Closed! Helmet Sat Upright!

Correct Cleaning – Cardinal Rules! ALWAYS Clean Gross Contamination from the outside of the unit BEFORE disassembly or removing the filter NEVER use compressed air on any part of the respirator NEVER immerse respirator in liquid Visor Down! Neckcape Drawstring Closed! Helmet Sat Upright!

Correct Cleaning In extremely dusty environment dry wipe excessive dust from helmet & collar or vacuum Do NOT use compressed air

Correct Cleaning Sit unit on a Draining Board and use a damp sponge and mild liquid detergent solution to clean the outside of the respirator

Correct Cleaning For ingrained dirt on the outside of the respirator, use a nail brush, ultrasonic brush or scouring pad *not on the visor

Correct Cleaning Rinse with a clean damp sponge Dry unit before disassembly

Correct Cleaning Remove filter with the filter at the lower most point. This will ensure any dislodged dirt particles fall away from the respirator

Correct Cleaning Wipe motor plenum with Purewipes or similar Iso Propyl Alcohol. NEVER immerse in liquid

Correct Cleaning Remove neckcape and hand wash with liquid soap. Machine wash with laundry soap, warm water, and hang to air dry or tumble dry with no heat

Correct Cleaning Remove interior comfort pads and put into laundry

Correct Cleaning Remove batteries if they are to be re-charged remotely. Leave if they are to be charged in situ. In either event, wipe with Purewipes or similar Iso Propyl Alcohol wipes.

Correct Cleaning Remove suspension assembly and dry wipe all sweat from inside of helmet. Do not use spray bottles or apply excessive amounts of cleaning solution to towels

Correct Cleaning Wipe all internal surfaces of the helmet with Purewipes or similar Isopropyl Alcohol wipes. NEVER immerse in liquid

Correct Cleaning If inside of PAPR is wet from cleaning store in a dry, clean, well ventilated area prior to reassembly Re-assemble Pureflo unit with new or newly laundered Comfort Pads and Neckcape Fit new or Re-fit filter. Ensure this is done with the filter at the lowest point to ensure dislodged particles cannot fall into the respirator

Correct Storage Remember: Inside helmet should be dry prior to storage Visor Down! Neckcape Drawstring Closed! Helmet Sat Upright!
