Advanced Energy management using Smart Metering and Automation System, and a Cloud Based Home Appliances Ratings Database. Omole, olayinka S. Electrical/Electronics engineering, covenant university, ota

Summary of team members, including municipal partner(s) and team lead Omole, Olayinka S – Team Lead, Metering and software [Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Covenant University, Ota] Akpobasah David – Team Lead, Home Automation and Control [Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Covenant University, Ota]

Project Focus This project is a combination of various modern technologies applied into solving the problem of energy management and energy efficiency. It makes use of technologies in software, Internet of Things, Smart Web and Home automation to achieve a comprehensive energy management system for homes. The purpose of this project would be to: Ensure individuals are aware of their power consumption on every of their devices (especially in term of money spent), so as to be able to make informed decisions on their energy usage Provide individuals with alternatives to high energy consuming devices Give users control over their energy spend by affording them the option to remotely switch their devices ON/OFF when consumption is exceeding what they plan for it to.

Timeframe for Deployment Phase 1 – March 2016 - [Design and Prototype Development] Phase 2 – June 2016 – [Pilot testing and demonstration at home in Ota, Ogun State] Phase 3 – Dec 2016 – [Deployment and sales to control group] Phase 4 – Jan 2017 – [Final project deployment and sales]

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – How will this project’s performance be measured? Provide a cheap means for people to get information about how much money they spend on their appliances/devices at every point in time. Give people a means of controlling their devices remotely using the Smart Sockets. Reduce energy spend by homes on their appliances and devices by making them aware of how much they spend on each device and preferring cost effective solutions to them. Increase the number of energy efficient devices used by individuals via the Home Appliances Database Incorporate IoT and Home Automation into the daily lives of everyone by making every device connected to the Smart Sockets, smart. Improve awareness about proper energy usage and energy efficiency.

How costing makes the system special IoT and Smart solutions are usually costly to implement and purchase. Our system makes use of affordable components thereby make it accessible to not only the wealthy, but any individual with an interest for it. It has a unit pricing of less than $30 as compared to alternatives currently in the market which cost between $100 and $300 [such as Sense and Smart-me]
