FEATURE RELEASE It’s amazing how our hidden talents appear in the places we least expect. For Sara Al-Balooshi, it took a family holiday abroad to reveal her brightest talent photography. As her family prepared for her graduation, she asked for a camera. At the beginning, the camera was for fun and testing her skills. People complimented her work and gave her feedback, which pushed her further to take photography seriously.” At university, she took a photography course. Her professor noticed her eye for detail and suggested she should move forward. After learning the photography composition rules, she started breaking them. She began to add her own ideas and creativity.” Al-Balooshi has managed to stand out among an ever-­increasing number of photographers. Her Abaya series has generated public interest and been featured in the media. The series shows an Emirati woman in an Abaya, pictured in different places. For Al-Balooshi, the theme has many stories behind it. One, she says, is the cultural aspect. “Most Emirati women do not like revealing their face on social media,” she says. “Being anonymous arouses curiosity.” To keep a record of her work, she set up an Instagram page (@swaairah), which she has used to increase ­exposure to her work. She currently has more than 21,000 ­followers. The first exhibition Sarah held was at Think Up Ramadan Art Exhibition in 2012 by Du. her Abaya series was displayed in the Gallery of Light last year in Mall of the Emirates.

BACKGROUNDER Sarah Al Balooshi studies at Zayed University; she is specialized as a PR student in the communication and media science collage. She started photography when she was a little kid, but her hobby developed to be a business that she can gain money from, and her business started last year when she was 21 years old. Sarah Al Balooshi graduated from the high school four years ago, and now she is completing her education to take her bachelor degree. Sarah has traveled to many places in her life, but when she went to Switzerland the attractive nature there inspired her and she started to practice her hobby more and more. Moreover, Sarah likes to take photography’s with her Nikon camera, because she thinks the features of the camera suits her photography style. However, Sarah does not think that she will continue her photography business because she doesn’t gain a lot of money from it, and it will end when she will graduate from University because she thinks that she will not have a time to practice her hobby after graduation, and she wants to focus on her future job.

FACT SHEET Sarah Al Balooshi has held 4 exhibitions for her Abaya series.   Sarah doesn’t sale any of her photography’s to anyone they are only for show. Sarah gains some money from her talent by taking other photography’s to other things, regardless her Abaya series photography’s. Sarah became a well-known photographer because she used the most popular website to publish her photos in, which is Instgram. Sarah has about 21,000 followers on Instgram that liked her photos and supported her to publish more photos. Sarah is a Media student but she is not actually interested in the photography field, and she preferred to be a PR student. Sarah is originally from Dubai, but she lives and studies in Abu Dhabi. Sarah discovered her photography talents when she was small, and she kept on improving over the years with her family support. Sarah took some courses to improve her photography and to learn the most important rules about photography. Sarah got her first camera after she graduated from high school, as a graduation gift from her parents.
