Kharif’2014 Zonal Seed Review Meeting Outcome Seed requirement: 145.65 lk Qtls Seed Availability: 149.46 lk Qtls Seed Shortage: Soybean: 6.96 lk Qtls Mothbean: 0.1 lk Qtls, Cowpea & Guar State to be careful: Jharkhand (shortage in most of the crops, poor seed village program)

Steps to Meet shortfall in Soybean seed Off season soybean seed production by MSSC (700 ha) and NSC (216 ha) in summer season. Awareness campaign for use of own/farm saved seeds. Identify / locate availability of farm saved seeds. Rationalise SRR (Kharif-2013 was 51%, can be reduced to 33%). Use of seed planters and dibblers for sowing to economise on seed rate (from 75kg/ha to 55 kg/ha) – Maharashtra has proposed, other States can adopt

El-nino El-nino factor reported, chances of less rainfall Action plan to salvage agricultural production: Prepare alternative crop plan with short /medium duration varieties Take up production of seeds of short duration varieties in Rabi-summer season, wherever possible Assess/Tie up availability of fodder seeds, farm saved seeds, short duration variety seeds Prepare Crop plan for early Rabi Pre-positioning of fertilizer with seeds
