GrainPro® SBD™ Solar Bubble Dryer25™ Doc. Code: TSD-PP003

INTRODUCTION

DESCRIPTION The GrainPro Solar Bubble Dryer (SBD25) is a tunnel type dryer whose drying performance is dependent on the solar radiation, relative humidity of the ambient air, and moisture content of the concerned agricultural commodity. The SBD25 consists of a transparent cover made of UV-resistant polyethylene film connected by a heavy duty zipper to the reinforced PVC drying floor. Solar radiation enters the drying chamber through the transparent cover, heats up the commodity and its moisture content is eventually vaporized which the ventilator pushes out of the bubble via the exhaust port at the far end. It uses bubble support (arcs) to keep the bubble inflated to shape, minimized condensation and avoid re-wetting of grain commodity. The SBD25 technology makes drying possible even during unpredictable weather with intermittent and/or sudden rains. The SBD25 is proven to shorten the drying time in full sunlight compared to conventional sun drying. Rake is the main mixer attached to the zipper joining the SBD25 top cover and the drying floor using reusable cable ties, which simultaneously opens and closes the zipper as the rake is moved along the zipper line. The tube mixer, an optional mixing device consisting of a GI pipe with cams at both ends impart undulating motion during the mixing operation.

FEATURES Collapsible dryer technology: can be installed in any flat surface, a multi-commodity dryer; Faster drying time (in full sunny condition) compared to conventional sun drying; A cheaper option and/or solution relative to existing mechanical dryers; Protects the commodity during drying and prevents postharvest losses; Provides protection against birds, fowls, and other animals; Prevents spillage losses, contamination with health hazard materials, and others; Can be set-up on concrete pavements, ground surface, grassy and muddy areas; and The SBD25-Solar uses purely renewable energy. Hence, doesn’t contribute to environmental pollution.

MAJOR PARTS One small ventilator that drive out the moisture and bubble inflated Models: SBD-25 Solar (Panel and battery). SBD-25 Electric (220V or 110V) Bubble support assembly is designed as collapsible component Methods of mixing: Rake Roller bar (Optional)

1 2 3 PROCEDURES SET-UP: Take-out SBD-25 from the carrying bag INSTALLATION: Unfold the SBD25 and take note of the folding pattern while it is being unfolded This unfolding sequence should be followed in reverse after use for proper storage 3 ASSEMBLY OF SUPPORT LOOPS: Tie a rope strong (to every loop) to a peg secured to the ground On concrete, use of sandbag or heavy stones is recommended

4 5 6 FIXING THE FRAME AND VENTILATOR: Ventilator is already assembled to its support frame except the support legs when packaging is done 5 COMMODITY LOADING: Open the top cover for loading of commodities 6 Loading requires at least two persons. Place the commodity (0.5mt or 10 bags) onto the drying floor and spread evenly on the entire drying floor i.e. 2m wide starting from the edge of the heating area (1.5m from the ventilator) to the end of the drying floor just before the exhaust ports.

7 Assemble the rake: slide the end of the rake handle with bore to the rake head. Secure those together with the bolt & nut provided. Make sure the tool for spreading the commodity does not have sharp edges which may damage the drying floor. 8 ASSEMBLE THE BUBBLE SUPPORT FRAME: Bubble support arch was designed as a collapsible component. Support arches are assembled using piercing screw and are joined to the legs with bolts and nuts. 9 There are 9-pcs of support arch: 8 of them with legs to be installed along the drying area. While support arch without leg should be located in the heating area. Assemble the bubble support arches by inserting the legs to the pockets provided along both sides of the drying floor.

10 CLOSING OF ZIPPER: Engage the zipper to connect the top cover and dryer floor completely. Note: Opening is done in the opposite manner. 11 VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT: Run the ventilator until one hour before sunset Turn it off over night to avoid re-wetting. In case of sudden or continuous rain, turn off the ventilator to minimize entry of moist air. 12 SWITCHING THE VENTILATOR ON: SBD Electric- Plug the ventilator to an electric grid.

13 SBD-Solar- Connect the ventilator wiring assembly to the solar panel wiring harness. 14 TURNING OF COMMODITY: Use of common rake. Use of roller bar (Optional). 15 COMMODITY UNLOADING: Unzip the top cover (partly or completely). Scoop dry commodities using plastic or wooden ladle.

16 REPAIR PROCEDURES: Use the ducting tape found in the repair kit to patch the damaged section of the bottom liner. 17 Use the UV-Transparent PE tape found in the repair kit to patch the damaged section of the top liner. 18 SAFEKEEPING: The empty SBD25 should be stored away from heat or direct sunlight and away from rodent. Do not place heavy object on top of the stored bag as it may damage or deform it.
