Chapter 1 Lesson 1 What is health? Health: combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being. Health Triangle – no side is more or less important than the other. Balanced! 3 sides – Physical, Mental/Emotional, Social

Health Triangle – 3 Sides Physical – exercise, diet/nutrition, hygeine-cleanliness, drug-free, rest/sleep Mental/emotional – accept self, express feelings in a healthy way, develop good decision making skills, learning, handle stress Social – get along with others, work with others, friends, give and get support

Wellness As you work to balance your health triangle, you are working towards wellness: the achievement of a high level of overall health. Health is not just not being sick or having a disease – lots of levels of health and wellness. Wellness continuum: Disease and disability to high energy and feeling of well-being

Lesson 2 Self-concept Self-concept: the view that you have of yourself Important to your overall health to have a good self-concept If you know yourself well, you know what your need to do to stay physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially healthy.
