Lord of the Flies William Golding - 1954 Themes: There are numerous themes in Lord of the Flies. The most obvious is that society holds everyone together. Without our ideals and values the basics of right and wrong are lost. Golding is showing that morals come directly from our surroundings.

Secondary Themes People will abuse power when not earned People will degrade another to improve their own security Inner savagery will break out eventually, given the right situation It's better to examine the consequences to a decision before rather than after The fear of the unknown can be a powerful force, which can turn you to either insight or hysteria
