Wake County Public School System Overview of AIMSweb for Principals Literacy is a right, not a privilege May 27, 2010 Wake County Public School System

Purpose of Session: Provide an overview of AIMSweb so that administrators can begin planning effective implementation

Determine often you will review the data collected Determine often you will review the data collected. We suggest reviewing after 3 to 4 data points or no more than every 3-4 weeks. Sense of Urgency

What you need to know when you need to know it Our Approach: What you need to know when you need to know it

Desired Outcomes Participants will Receive an overview of AIMSweb Understand what browser-based scoring is View sample reports Receive chart of assessments and benchmark windows Understand some possible structures for training staff and administering assessments Have the opportunity to discuss questions with experienced AIMSweb users Consider how to get staff on board

What is AIMSweb? AIMSweb is a web-based benchmark and progress monitoring system based on direct, frequent and continuous student assessment. The results are reported to students, parents, teachers and administrators via a web-based data management and reporting system to determine response to instruction.

Logistics Subscriptions to AIMSweb Reading Pro for all K-5 students in your building Ready for year-round schools Training in June for year-round, August for traditional Any device which can access the internet will work for browser-based scoring (desktop, laptop, netbook, iPad, etc.), and data available immediately (do not have to sync) Update on EASiPEP and Data Capture Update on mCLASS

Rather than this…

Accuracy Rate Calculator (to be used for winter and spring)   WCPM WPM Accuracy Rate Enter the WCPM and the total number of words read for each passage. Hit enter and the accuracy rates for each passage will appear. Select the median accuracy rate and record beside the ORF score for each benchmarking period. After recording the median accuracy rate, delete information in colums I, J, L, M, and O, P for the next benchmark data set. Enter the WCPM and the total number of words read for each passage. Hit enter and the accuracy rates for each passage will appear. Select the median accuracy rate and record beside the ORF score for each benchmarking period. You have this…

What can you doing now to get things started? Three main things. To take seemingly incompatible ideas (or shapes, in this case, which don’t look like they could possibly align) and make sense of it all

LAM = Local AIMSweb Manager(s) Identify Two LAMs for Your School LAM = Local AIMSweb Manager(s) Will attend Day 1 and Day 2 “Train-the-Trainer” sessions (register for Day 1 now) Will train your staff Will support implementation at your school Will attend Regional LAMs meetings throughout the year Will be the conduit between Literacy Team and your school on AIMSweb

2. Begin thinking about structures for training staff and assessing students Hear from experienced AIMSweb users today See similarities to what you are already doing with DIBELS (see assessment chart) Review screening windows (see chart) Let NC Wise Data Manager know about upcoming task involving loading students

3. Recognize how AIMSweb will make what you are already doing better Saves time and money (view browser-based scoring samples) Makes data accessible at the touch of a button Provides powerful reporting options Allows you to compare your students to the district and the nation Provides district-level data to help guide decisions about support, resources, and training

Support

Overivew of AIMSweb for Principals Day 1 Training for LAMs (overview of the system, how to use browser-based scoring, how to run basic reports) Detailed instructions for Data Manager to gather information from NC Wise to upload into AIMSweb Regional LAMs meetings throughout year, support from Literacy Team, documents provided through training Day 2 Training for LAMs (progress monitoring and deeper understanding of reports – probably within first 9-12 weeks of school) Technical support through AIMSweb

Learning from Current AIMSweb Users: Administrator Perspectives When students don’t learn, how do we feel? Turn and talk about this at your table

Question and Answer

We look forward to supporting your school
