Characteristics The typical design of Art Deco mainly features wooden structures in furniture as well as light colours e.g. White. Although through the geometric patterns there is a constant repetition of shapes throughout the design as well as similar colours featuring black and gold. I believe designers of Art Deco were trying to achieve the look of modernism due to the name ‘Art Deco’ being known as ‘Style Moderne’. However this was to also show the mass production of the 1920s – 1930s which was leaving everyone with the same fashion designs, furniture etc. The designers were trying to achieve the look of where items were officially known as ‘designer’ and ‘one of a kind’. I am using possible designs of the geometric patterns in my work because I think they can influence further detail into my artwork.
