Our Schedule for p.m. class Mrs. Kaiser’s News 708-233-8090 lkaiser@npd117.net The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice. ~Brian Herbert We are starting to use a website in our classroom called Xtra Math. You might remember this website from kindergarten. Today I am sending home your child’s pin number so you can access this at home and the program is free. This website helps your child to build their fluency in addition and subtraction math facts. I will be checking the website to see how your child is doing on this program. Try to have them practice this at least 3-4 times a week. This is a great program for your child since they can do it by themselves and it will increase their recall on basic math facts. Learning Focus Math: this week we used our number line to count on +1 and +2. Then we wrote addition sentences to match what we just did. This is an important skill to learn so that they can count on from the greater number as they add on the smaller number. If we were counting 6+2 they should start with 6 and then say 7,8. We also worked on turnaround facts. This is helpful for your child to know because if they know 6 + 2=8 then they would know 2 + 6=8. Knowing turnaround facts will be very helpful when we get into the larger equations. In Science : we started our new unit on The Behavior of Light. Important Dates .
