Narrative Theory Charlotte Walford

How is my magazine structured? The front cover draws in the audience as the main image is of one member of Steps on their reunion tour The contents page then tells the audience what the structure is of this magazine and where to find features and articles. The double page spread then goes into more detail on one of the articles featured in the magazine.

How does the front cover lead the reader into the magazine? The masthead stands out to the audience and draws them in to the rest of the magazine The cover lines tell the audience what is inside the magazine, leading the audience to read more The main image leads the audience into the magazine as they want to find out more about him and what he’s doing

How does the contents page lead the reader into the rest of the magazine? The articles featured on the front cover lead the audience into the magazine and the contents page tells them where to find that article. The images on the left side of the contents page entice the audience into the magazine as the reader may find a particular image interesting and what to read more.

Todorov Equilibrium- Steps put together and begin their career Disruption- They rose to fame with their first single 5,6,7,8 Conflict- They began arguing and 2 members left the band on their last night of the tour Resolution- 10 years later, TV series for Sky reunited the group to resolve differences New Equilibrium- Forgave each other and decided to reform after 10 years and go on a UK arena tour

Barthes The front cover of my magazine uses Barthes theory of a series of codes that are read and interpreted by the audience. In this case, cultural code. The audience understand who the man is on the front cover, due to a cultural awareness of the 90s.

Levi-Strauss My magazines contents page uses Levi-Strauss’ narrative theory of constant binary opposites. New – Old My magazine incorporates both the new music and the 90s music.
