Contents 1 Overview of Tama Waterworks 2 Tama Waterworks Reformation Strategy - Development of Water Transmission Network - Rezoning of Water Distribution Areas - Improvement of Disaster Preparedness Plan 3 Summary

Overview of Tama Waterworks TAMA area As of Mar. 2016 Central Tokyo Item TOKYO TAMA Central Customers (1,000 people) 13,173 3,900 9,273 Supply area (km2) 1,239 612 627 Total length of distribution pipes (km) 26,915 10,369 16,546 Average amount of water supply(1,000m3/day) 4,181 1,142 3,039 Purification plants 81 70 11 PP’s Capacity(1,000m3/day) --- 0.04 – 32 15 – 1,700 Tokyo

Tama Waterworks Reformation Strategy Formulated in 2013 Background 1.Pipeline network was developed insufficiently. 2.Aging facilities. Constructed in the 1950s and 60s. 3.Water supply easily cuts off when disasters strike. Steps Developing water transmission network Rezoning water distribution areas Improving disaster preparedness plan

Development of Water Transmission Network Hijirigaoka SS Higashimurayama PP Ozaku PP Haijima SS Narahara SS Yarimizuoyama SS Higashiyamato SS Tama north-south transmission main Diameter 2000mm Length 16km now under construction Tama hills transmission main Diameter 1500mm Length 32km Finished in 2015 : Purification Plant : Water Supply Station : Pumping Station : Transmission Pipe (existing) Goal Improve reliability of water supply even in emergencies Replace aging pipes without disruption of water supply

Utilization of gravity flow Rezoning of Water Distribution Areas P A city B city D city C town Each city supplied water in its district only. Rezoning makes water supply more efficient. P C town A city B city D city P Utilization of gravity flow P Water Supply Station Distribution Pump Gravity Flow Pressured flow Integration of facilities Interchange of water supply Goal Provide tap water anytime by interchange of water supply Improve facility management by integration of facilities Save energy by taking advantage of gravity flow

Telemeter for water quality Improvement of Disaster Preparedness Plan Planned disruption of power supply in 2011 made it difficult/impossible to - Provide tap water by distribution pumps - Collect data for water supply from telemeters Water stoppage more than 260,000 households Batteries Telemeter for water quality Goal Emergency generators are being installed at the facilities. Storage batteries are being mounted on the telemeters. Facilities are being renovated to make them earthquake resistant.

Summary To overcome unique challenges in Tama Developing water transmission network Rezoning water distribution areas Improving disaster preparedness plan We will supply tap water in a stable and sustainable manner with the advantage of regional waterworks along with a disaster management plan now and in the future!!
