European Commission: DG Research in cooperation with DG ECFIN and DG ESTAT   Framework Programme 6 Priority 8.3.1 Task 11 Regio Underpinning European Integration, Sustainable Development, Competitiveness and Trade Policies Specific Targeted Research or Innovation Project   Project period: 1.1.2005 – 31.12.2007 EC contribution: 0.65 M€

Aims of the project - 1 1. Build on the ‘four capitals’ model - elaborate the principle linkages and feedback mechanisms, with a view to extending beyond a heuristic framework 2. Clarify the idea of social welfare used by the model - elaborate the nature of SRD objectives, including the influence of multi-level governance and the use of indicators to measure SRD 3. Examine the measurement of trade-offs and critical thresholds - especially that between manufactured capital and natural capital, and between manufactured capital and social capital

Aims of the project - 2 4. Examine and test the application of spatial planning tools - as a means of integrating policy choices 5. Explicitly address the requirement for aggregation & weighting of policy impacts - by testing the deliberation matrix approach in selected regional policy and political contexts 6. Confirm the utility and methods of application of the various evaluation tools - with recommendations to support SRD.
